Callista & Jonathan
Big Sur, California
Callista and Jonathan’s intimate wedding began with 35 guests traveling from 12 different states to the coastal Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California where the couple planned a cozy weekend getaway replete with the most amazing details. Guests arrived at their hotel rooms to find custom wooden boxes filled with local and artisanal provisions to get them through the weekend, including Carmel Valley honey, locally-crafted Anchor Brewing Company beer, and a set of forks labeled “For Later.” After check-in, Callista & John hosted a welcome reception where they gifted individual chocolate almond cherry cakes—individually hand-painted with each guest’s name and Big Sur poppies by The Butter End Cakery—the perfect use for those previously mysterious forks. The wedding design elements featured textures of wood, leather, and brass, complemented by touches of orange—a nod to their alma mater, Syracuse University, where they had met eight years earlier as seniors in a finance class. “We chose a redwood tree as our logo due to the striking coastal redwood forests at our wedding destination. The longevity of the redwood tree is a symbol for our marriage withstanding the test of time,” explains Callista. The redwood logo was prominent in many of the design details—from the stationery, handmade leather coasters, and carved wooden welcome boxes to the custom wooden taster boards holding a selection of local craft beers at the couple’s welcome reception for each of their guests. “At the end of our ceremony, our guests tossed a hand-picked selection of dried flowers as we walked back up the aisle to a string trio playing “All You Need is Love,” notes Callista who looked stunning in her all-over lace, ivory, cap sleeve sheath by designer Monique Lhuillier. For the reception, dinner plates from Heath Ceramics sat atop vintage wooden chargers, which were complemented by brushed gold and wood flatware alongside elegant gold-rimmed glassware from Casa de Perrin. “The dinner centerpieces showcased the dreamiest deep golden mustard roses, and my bouquet featured tonal whites and greens in the most romantic and naturalistic way thanks to the team at Studio Mondine,” gushes the bride.
The natural linen deckle edge paper invitation suite with handwritten modern calligraphy set the tone for the Parisian-inspired celebration.
In addition to the heart-stopping views of the serene landscape of Big Sur, Callista and Jonathan’s affinity for quality, local food and beverage made the Post Ranch Inn an ideal celebratory venue. Along with regional wine and Pliny the Elder beer during cocktail hour, the bar menu featured their favorite Blanton’s Bourbon in an Old Fashioned along with sparkling blackberry bourbon specialty cocktails. “We incorporated mushrooms throughout the dinner menu as a nod to Jonathan’s family’s Osborn Mushroom Farm in upstate New York, a legacy which we hope to carry on in the future,” notes the bride. “Post Ranch Inn has a wonderful garden and mushroom greenhouse on property, where many of our menu ingredients were grown and foraged. Some of our favorites included a kelp—roasted abalone canape, Moss Landing mushroom and barley risotto with black truffle, hot smoked local black cod glazed with fresh apple cider, olive crusted lamb with garden alliums (which was roasted on the spit just beyond our dinner tables), and the divine post-entrée smoked shoch cheese with seasonal fruit preserve and pumpkin seed lavash.” Dinner and dancing ensued, but not before Callista’s father popped open a vintage bottle of champagne from his 30th wedding anniversary celebration to her mother—a final blessing for the marriage of his daughter and new son-in-law.
“THE BOUQUET FEATURED TONAL WHITES OF ICEBERG GARDEN ROSES, WILD CLEMATIS, PIERIS AND WHITE PHLOX IN THE MOST ROMANTIC AND NATURALISTIC WAY THANKS TO THE TEAM AT STUDIO MONDINE,” GUSHES THE BRIDE.
